Desolate Halls

You are trapped in an abandoned school and you must find your way out

Using modular building, I concepted the level and then create all the models and textures to go along with it. For my theme, I chose an abandoned high school, where the player must navigate the various classrooms to find the items that can be used to unlock the exit door and eventually escape the school.

For the interactivity of the level, when the player spawns inside the level and approaches any door, there will be a UI element that appears, prompting them to press "E" to open the door and it will open and once they leave the trigger zone, the door will close. Alongside the doors, when the player finds the keycard and picks it up, the camera will change to show a group of lockers being moved to show a new classroom has been. Lastly, in that newly unlocked room, there is a junction box that when interacted with, will turn the lights back on and unlock the door, the player knows this as the emissive on the scanners have now been turned on.

Besides the interactivity, there are UI elements that will help better the experience of the player, through the use of a Start Screen, an Options Menu, a Pause Menu and finally a Win Screen. These elements along with the in game prompts to tell that player what to do are there to help better their experience while playing the game. There are also various elements in the game that help with the experience, through the use of niagara for dirt and dust particles that helps show the abandoned and decrepit theme of the level. When the player spawns in, chromatic aberrations is present for a few seconds to simulate the feeling of being disorientated and confused.

All the assets were modeled in Maya and textured in Substance Painter, the UI elements were created in photoshop and the poster assets were created by my friend Issac Jacob.
